RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT PRODUCTS
The following products are currently being explored and researched by the Smithfield BioScience team for future applications.
HEPARIN DERIVATIVES AND GLYCOSAMINOGLYCANS
The BioScience team continues to explore the development and production of new heparin derivatives. This includes low molecular weight heparins, heparinized compounds for medical device and biomaterial applications, and heparin derivatives for novel medical applications. Research and development (R&D) capabilities also include using fermentation and chemoenzymatic reactions to produce glycosaminoglycans.
PORCINE-DERIVED ACTIVE PHARMACEUTICAL INGREDIENT’S
With a highly integrated raw material supply, the BioScience R&D team is uniquely positioned in the industry to provide the highest quality porcine-derived API’s. Access to the appropriate porcine organs facilitates a streamlined development process for new products ensuring the API supply chain meets requirements from regulatory agencies such as the FDA and USDA.
PORCINE-DERIVED MEDICAL DEVICE COMPONENTS AND BIOMATERIALS
With the right harvesting and processing procedure, porcine tissues can be readily used in medical device and biomaterial manufacturing. BioScience can harvest the porcine tissues and process them to meet customer needs and provide the research community with lab-processed porcine materials for exploration of their use in regenerative medicine and other scientific research.
